...the BEST brussels sprouts I've ever had. Usually they have uneven consistency, the outside being softer and wetter than the firmer inside. But these had been split in half or quarters, so the cooking was even. And they had a smokey flavor, as if they had been grilled over a flavorful wood flame -- not just soaked in a pot of boiling water. Slightly crisp without being dry or crackly. We told the waiter how amazing they were: very amazing.

I splurged on the desert tonight, but I was with an out-of-town relative, there was no plain old fruit on the desert menu, and I wanted to continue the meal to continue the conversation.
